Fun game, Definitely worth a play. Get some friends together and its a nice casual game. You get events all over the map you can participate in, base building, lots to grind for, plenty of weapons, player vending, the list goes on. The biggest draw back to it all is the limits they put on you and how much you can really do in a session. That and the lack of end game content makes the game feel like your doing the same thing over and over. They do add seasonal events and new stuff to grind for but i wish they would focus on more content. With all that said, the 76 community has some great people in it both young and older. Its become a fun place to hangout and chat with all kinds of folks. All of which with their own uniquely designed camp that you can visit and hangout at. Firstly, ages remove the old technologcal style of gameplay and attempt to even this dimension out. Gone are the days of your infantry facing enemy crossbowmen—the pace of ages forces everyone to keep up more or less. This is a welcome change in my opinion. Ages are in an essence periods of turns in a game where you have to accomplish certain goals in order to avoid a dark age, or exceed expectations to get a golden age. This kind of a dynamic gameplay, combined with loyalty,
appears to be geared towards preventing gigantic warmonger players from taking an early lead and simply ignoring other mechanics in order to establish a domination victory very fast. I personally have never liked this style of gameplay and found it slightly contrary to the ideas of Civilization, so these changes are welcome in my mind. However the “ages” style of gameplay feels a bit shallow compared to what I would expect from a Civ title. It’s never particularly difficult to avoid dark ages, and golden ages don’t seem to be super advantageous. In fact, if you want to be the warmonger, Golden ages are the way to go as they provide you with a special Casus Belli that helps eliminate loyalty penalties and warmonger penalties from other civs. I feel like tweaks and mods would make this feature more interesting, but I appreciate the “Ages” idea of making the game a little more realistic.Now onto the other aspects of the DLC. First up is the alliance system. You can basically throw this away from the getgo as other Civs are just stupid. It is common for the AI to form various alliances with other AI players but tbh they’re never really much of a threat. Entangling webs of military alliances aren’t really possible as the AI seem to never want to reach level 2 alliances. I did a playthrough where I did a smaller civ with fewer cities and attempted to form alliances, but I really couldn’t see much benefit from them. Honestly this system is not really adding or taking away much from the game.
