Honestly, maybe I’m easy to please but this game relaxed me and brought smile to my face. I have always been partial to the find object games that colour in as you complete sections; which this does well. The only frustrating part of the game is the bonus nerd find 100 cats and people at the end. There is a hint system but there’s also an achievement for NOT using it so I haven’t.
There is a feature where, as you scroll in your search, where the still-hidden cat will meow, alerting you to look closer. Doing this helps in not having to use the hint button. I have completed every level except the very last one and here is my only complaint. I still need to find like 70 people and it is SUCH a grind! This is where you realize how short the festive music loop really is and it becomes irritating. The first is generally around 100-120 cats, and the more difficult can take that up to 200 as well as special cats to find that will unlock additional scenes to search – there also tends to be a number of city locals to find in addition to the cats in the advanced mode. This one has an extra ‘nerd’ cat search if you find all the cats in all the additional scenes, but at this stage I have only done the first basic one. I’m a bit slower on the games at the moment due to ongoing concussion related symptoms that mean screens up close and bright are very difficult for me at the moment.
Hidden Cats In Santa’s Realm Pre-Installed:
The only thing that would make these games more perfect in my eyes would be the ability to set a smooth zoom or continuous zoom when holding down the zoom button(s). As it is there are about 10 different zoom levels (likely more) and pressing the button goes in and out of them, obviously designed for a scroll wheel, but it is annoying on the gamepad and should continually poll the button while it is held down. The Hidden Cats series is simply the best! And this is one of their best! There are a lot of copy cat games around, but for sheer attention to detail you cannot go past the Hidden Cats series of games. Then there are the extras. You play the regular normal level, which is 120 cats, then there is an advanced level, and that unlocks more levels where you may have to find other things as well, like humans, and being Christmas, you can be sure they are having fun.
