Scientists found indications for ancient egypt being far more technologized than we can imagine. Hourglass is set in a scenario in which those assumptions are actually true.. Besides offering an ancient world to explore, Hourglass is mostly about solving various puzzles with a unique core-mechanic. Your ability allows you to record your actings for a certain amount of time. After that, time winds back to the beginning of the recording and a time-clone of yourself appears, repeating the actions. On your adventure, you will have to use this ability in creative ways to get through various areas filled with difficult puzzles.
Your journey leads you to a remote temple where you encounter undiscovered egyptian technologies and portals to a foreign world. Only by unraveling the secrets of these long lost technologies, you are able to solve all puzzles on your quest and eventually find your father. If you like Portal & The Talos Principle, then buy this game. It’s basically the same thing in terms of a first person puzzler, with very similar time mechanics as Talos. The story is minimal but serviceable. Voice acting is few and far between but meh. But none of that matters because the gameplay is what you come here for. I never really felt the puzzles were unfair or anything. I did need to look up help a couple times but it was not because of bad game design. A great experience and worth your time.
Hourglass Direct Play:
Had an awesome time playing Hourglass. The pacing of the riddles is perfect, I like that everything is revolving around one mechanic beautifully. Reminds me a lot of the time of Braid and it’s riddles, but with a modern Look and Feel and it’s own take. Definitely recommending this. it was just that when my clone was moving the teleport discs, the real ones weren’t being moved for some reason and my clone looked like they were carrying nothing. I ended up trying the same thing over and over until my clone did actually move the teleport discs and I was able to finish the puzzle, but I felt deflated rather than accomplished.
