Hyperblade Direct Download
HYPERBLADE is a gameplay-driven action game where you can only move by dashing. Use your momentum to kick off walls and cut down your enemies. Abilities like time manipulation and bullet deflection allow for limitless improvisational play. HYPERBLADE has entered early access to get feedback and improve the game. The final version will expand on the story/lore, and have more levels and gameplay elements. Gameplay first – HYPERBLADE prioritizes gameplay over story. No long unskippable cutscenes to interrupt the flow of gameplay. Tough but fair – Players should feel challenged, but should never feel that they died unfairly. A sense of mastery – A player’s skill should improve over time. The satisfaction of mastering a mechanic can be extremely satisfying.
The entire game is essentially a slow-mo bullet deflection fetish – always a fun concept to build a game around. I thought the controls were perfectly fine, although I do think the visuals in the game could be a bit more intuitive. You can only move around by dashing so it takes a few minutes to master the momentum, and while it can be a bit sensitive in some areas because you die in one hit, overall the gameplay works as expected. I beat the current early access in about 90 minutes or so, it is reasonably challenging, but not too hard, plus you can get lucky even if just spam the actions. I like all of the different scenarios that you created, you could brute force the fights if you wanted to, but most of the time there is a strategy that can make it a lot easier, such as utilizing the environment or the unfriendly projectiles. It has a good balance between reflexes and puzzle elements, it can be somewhat thought-provoking in the way you approach the battle – like figuring out what needs to die first.
Hyperblade Direct Play:
Right now there is not a ton of variety in terms of environment and aesthetic, but the game does introduce different types of enemies with specific weapon mechanics. Some of the later stages also have traps and teleports, in addition to collecting optional “cheats”, so there is a little bit of variety. I just feel like you made it a little too dark, I think you need to work on the saturation difference, it’s actually hard to see which enemies have shields or projectiles, depending on the area, and it general I think the shadows are too heavy. There is actually a neat effect in one of the levels where the blade has a neon trace to it, personally, I wish it was on the entire time to be honest, maybe make it optional, just having a bit more high contrast on blood and particles. When you make more stages try to give them different colors and tiles, just so 80% of the game is not BLUE.
