The puzzles are clever and thought through, the horror is very well done to the point that my boyfriend, who doesn’t enjoy horror games, had fun helping with the puzzles and being apart of the game. Also not just forced scares, even in Resi, you always kinda know you’re not alone, you hear the footsteps of Mr X, or know Jack Baker, or Lady D are looking around for you on a consistent, rinse and repeat basis. This however, you forget quite easily, you feel chill and then it’ll just get you. Also there was one part that made us both jump, and I don’t think I’ve seen him jump before lol. However I normally don’t like jumpscares, and they make me eye roll, but nothing in this feels forced and I end up smiling like a gullible butthead afterwards after jumping my butt off.
None of the mechanics feel forced or gimmicky, and there’s a lot of VERY cool mechanics at play here. I remember one part thinking I was genuinely going crazy and seeing things. And no horror game has ever done that to me. I will also add, they’ve really changed up the generic horror tropes. I’ll just say, nothing is what you think it will be.. You may even make some very confusing friends along the way. There is one con to the game and that is performance. However this con has a happy ending. It made my gpu run so hot that the fans were spiking irrationally and kinda spooked me in itself! As broken gpu = me cry. It also made the game feel unplayable just by how loud it was forcing my PC to be, killing my experience. I wouldn’t have minded if it was consistently loud, but my gpu fans were ramping up to 4000 rpm every 30 seconds, then back down again.. It made me almost refund the game. Instead, it made me aware that my 2080ti aorus had a pathetic smear of thermal paste and this was a common issue as gigabyte really skimp out on the thermalpaste.
