Features: Survive… Until You Die, Play standing In A Room-scale VR Experience Craft tools, like a spear, from the island’s resources Use your tools to catch fish, defend yourself… and do stuff, like, not die, Befriend (or not) the island’s wildlife including sharks and pesky seagulls, Foster a lifelong friendship with a crab. And, by lifelong, we mean a week at the most? Island Time is a survival game. The objective appears to be to survive as long as you can rather than until the end. Throughout your time playing, you’ll have a Crab who lives on the island help you out. He’ll give you somewhat helpful tips to survive, keep you entertained and provide claws for you. He also gives you a nice eulogy after you die. You can survive by scavenging for food and by combining items together to make tools. Some are more useful than others. For example you can combine a flint and a stick together to make a spear for catching fish. As well as trying to survive, there are a variety of achievements in game.
Island Time is a fun game which has that one more go feel to it. Some players may feel it is repetitive though, as you will be doing the same actions often. Island Time VR if you’re looking for a beautiful and charming, but short exploration of a simplified survival experience in VR. Considering it’s brevity, it’s in your best interest to leave as much up to discovery as possible, so if you’re planning on playing, probably don’t read on past here (and un-view the promotional material if you can). From the trailers I thought there would be more depth to the crafting options and interactivity on the island, but from what I’ve seen, there isn’t all that much that wasn’t shown off ahead of time, so I felt like the emphasis placed on that part of the game was a little disingenuous. There were at most ~4 combinations that I found useful, and they were mostly obvious from the start. I was also interested in the game as its main character is voiced by Greg Miller, someone I’m a fan of. That’s fun for a while, but there aren’t enough unique lines recorded for him, so you’ll hear repeated lines almost right off the bat. It really could’ve used improv ala the Rick and Morty VR game. For example, I’m fairly certain there are no more than 3 unique lines for when you die, and considering how much the game expects you to die (see achievements), this is far too few. So like I said, it’s beautiful, charming, and a good exploration of the concept, so I can recommend it for that. However, the charm wears off when the lines get repeated so often, and the exploration of the concept only seems to go so deep. I enjoyed my time with it, but I wish there were more.
Island Time VR PC Pre-Installed:
Let’s start with the positive aspects. It’s a great VR arcade game, the rounds are challenging, you have to watch your surroundings, and he tasks are relatively simple, simple enough to not be furstrating nor too simple to get boring when you have to repeat them over and over again. Life gets drained automatically (or when you get hurt) and you can refill it through cooked fishes and coconuts. While the coconuts are an easy pick (they don’t get stolen by seagulls), they often are much more limited than fish and are hard to access at first. Fish takes some cooking (basically holding it over a burning log) to become edible and are your main food resource. They, like coconuts, spawn in waves, but come in much greater amounts, but also can get stolen by seagulls (which can also be scared away by hitting them with something). It’s challenging and fun for short rounds. Also it looks really amazing.
