Jack Move is a fresh take on turn based Japanese style RPG’s. Promising a unique blend of gritty cyberpunk storytelling, turn-based battles, and beautiful modern pixel art. Take on the role of Noa Solares: An up-and-coming vigilante hacker from Bright Town. When the overreaching mega-corporation Monomind, kidnaps Abner, her estranged father, Noa has no choice but to get him back, before it’s too late. Why is Abner researching digitised consciousness? And what does Monomind want to do with it? Noa won’t be alone on her journey. She’ll be helped out by her best friend and tactical planner, Ryder, as well as her Martini drinking uncle and ex-corporate spy, Guin Blakely. Fight your way through dungeons filled with all sorts of cyberpunk villany. Street punks, gangsters, corporate militia and horrific cyber-experiments-gone-wrong will all be vying to take you down! This game simply oozes with style from every point, graphics and animations for its 2D style are absolutely top notch for this type of game. Gameplay wise its a JRPG style game through and through, with turn based combat and a rock-paper-scissors style of weakness vs defence that you’d be right at home with if you’ve played things like Pokemon or Final Fantasy, except all the moves and customisation come from your Cyber Deck and your hacking programs. Very unique take. Music is very good here and stands out as a high point, unfortunately though there are only a handful of musical tracks so it does get a bit repetitive, luckily the tracks there are excellent so it never feels annoying.

Story wise the game is pretty easy to follow and pretty good. I think the story gets a bit -too- silly sometimes, I realise this is an intentional choice by the developer but there are certainly a few moments where I found myself rolling my eyes a bit at some of the story takes and silly dialogue. Overall though it is a decently well written and easy to follow story that seems to make sense and come together well early on without feeling like it drags or feels grindy. An RPG that can figure out good systems you can actually make use of without an encyclopedia. And implements the absolute BEST leveling progression I have ever seen in an RPG. (While it still has unfortunate difficulty spikes for some later boss battles, it is otherwise a perfect flow.) Sadly the games story builds towards 1 plot for most of the playtime, and then just shifts gears, throws away 80% of what it built and focuses the final act on. well other ideas.
