About The Game
Return from exile and restore the power balance of a secluded land. Play as an ancient warrior that has been tasked to light the sealed beacons of its millenary Order. Avoid the impending doom and complete 50 different puzzles as you aid the Jade Goddess cleanse the land from the cursed flames of the plague. Learn and cast 4 different blessings, powerful lightning-based skills granted by the Sacred Spark of the Goddess, each with a specific use to overcome different types of hurdles and defeat the forces of the Ashen Plague. Each puzzle will pose extra challenges. Use strategy and intuition to complete them at your own pace. The gameplay is straightforward: to advance to the next stage, you must navigate your hero across the grid and eliminate enough enemies to light up the beacon. The trick is that enemies move with your every step and you can attack them only from their rear or sides. The number of enemies that need to be destroyed is shown in the upper left corner.
The only thing you need to worry about are new enemies with different attack patterns. While there are several unexpected surprises along the path, enemies usually just stand on the spot or move around. In case you make a mistake or die, you can press the “undo” button as many times as you want without any penalty. You are quickly introduced to the unique mechanic of blessings. You get these unique abilities as you advance through the game. There are four of them and they help you affect the movement of the enemy. For instance, the first one enables you to make one enemy in your immediate vicinity move while everyone else remains still. These abilities cannot be used at will, though. You must first gather a tear that can be found on the playing field, most often on the opposite site, or carried by an enemy. Stages aren’t challenging; virtually anyone can figure out a puzzle by moving around and watching how the enemies move. It gets trickier if you want to beat everything. As you choose which power to use or when to rely on a special technique that allows you to survive when two enemies collide on the same spot, your strategic abilities will be put to the test.

Moving could have been done better. Since you can only move in four directions, using a keyboard should allow you to move more quickly. But first you have to go through the extra step of selecting a node and confirming the movement. Playing with a mouse is therefore considerably more enjoyable because you can simply click on the node without taking that additional step. Each of the five provinces has ten stages. While the pixel art is very well done and not just a static image, the grid textures stay the same throughout the game. Provinces are separated from each other by a distinctive background and a few fresh elements, such as trees and ruins, but I would’ve wished for an additional playing field. A stage invites multiple replays due to the three medals that can be obtained. The first one is given simply for completing a puzzle, while the other two are tied to completing the task with the fewest moves possible and grabbing the gold coin. You can never earn all three in one try.
