About The Game
The spider – mankind’s most ancient and deadly nemesis. As a licensed Kill It With Fire exterminator, it’s time to fight back! Assemble your arsenal of increasingly excessive weapons, track spiders across suburbia, and burn everything in your path! To defeat spiders you must exploit their one weakness: FIRE. Or bullets. Or explosions, throwing stars, gettin’ smushed by stuff…pretty much anything, really. But that doesn’t mean it’ll be easy – first you’ve gotta find the spiders. Use state-of-the-art arachnid tracking technology to pinpoint your target’s location among hundreds of potential hiding spots – then, torch everything and smash the spider with a frying pan after it runs out. It’s the only way to be sure. Kill It With Fire is played from a first person perspective, which I despise because it makes the scares much more effective. Looking at the screenshots, the game appears to be a sandbox game which you’re given free reign to incite chaos everywhere. While that is true, half of the game is played more akin to a hidden object game as a good chunk of the game’s objectives, collectibles and upgrades are hidden in plain sight.
The main enemy of this game is of course, the spiders. They are literally everywhere: inside a pizza box, behind a picture frame, underneath crops, etc; if it’s an object, there’s a good chance these bastards are sticking on it. To make things worse, there are different types of spiders with each one exhibiting a unique power such as the Zombie Spider that can revives previously dead spiders, Jumping Spider that likes to leap quickly to your face (this one’s the worst for me), and Exploding Spider that, well… explodes. Fortunately, the game is kind enough to provide you with a tracker that allows you to monitor these creatures very, very carefully. On to the weapons. The wacky selection of available weaponry that I can use to bring down hell onto these spiders is very versatile. It definitely reminds me a little bit of the Dead Rising games where you can pick up the most mundane of objects and use it as a deadly killing machine. From the humble frying pan to the rapid-firing assault rifle to the exquisite saw launcher, there’s a weapon that can cater to everyone’s playstyle. In fact, there’s a whole category of weapons that is solely dedicated to causing fire such as the flamethrower, C4 and the freaking lightsaber (or laser sword because copyright).
There are a total of 10 levels in the game ranging from the backyard of a house to a gas station. Each of them are brimmed with details and filled with hundreds of items that can be pick up, examined and rotated around. Level design is absolutely fantastic. Never once do I felt like the levels are copy-and-pasted as each one have their own recognizable identity. Some levels even provide shortcuts to the starting area, preventing you from getting lost. Every level also have their own selected set of objectives, collectibles (in the form of batteries) and upgrades scattered around. Completing the objectives and collecting the batteries give you points that you can use to upgrade yourself and your tracker. This is where the hidden object aspect of the game came into play. I do admit that I used a guide for this one as some of these are fairly well-hidden. You really have to search every nook and cranny to 100% this game. It took me around 10 hours to complete the main game and get around 80% of all of the extra content. After that, I used a guide to collect everything else that pushes the playtime to 13 hours in total. As for replayability, there’s a big potential. The game is a great stress reliever and serves well as one of those ‘pick up and play for half an hour’ kind of games.
