Last Half of Darkness Steam Pre-Installed
An absolute treat for fans of haunted mansion games Last half of darkness offers a refreshing twist on the classic horror adventure genre. It’s from the same developer who released the original 35 years ago. I was familiar with it and expected a typical point and click adventure however the freedom to wander, admire the architecture, be haunted by spirits, shoot at them on the fly feels wonderfully fresh. It is spooky and atmospheric exuding an unmistakable old-school vibe. Nobody holds your hand you’re free to explore the mansion at your own pace and piece together its mysteries. The game is very forgiving allowing you to progress despite any missteps.Although it took me longer to complete as I was slow thinking at times it was a thoroughly enjoyable experience and I’d eagerly jump at the chance to revisit any upcoming titles from this developer for more adventures.
i’ve played WRF Studios Last Half of Darkness for many years. There would be tweaks and revisions throughout the years to have you keep coming back and playing the newest version (mostly available just in time for Halloween). I’m two hours in and it is a very good game. Graphics are excellent. Sound is fine and fits the same mood as the original. I’m not sure what other issues the previous reviewer had but I’m running on a 4090 so everything runs good in the game. The only animation that was odd was the rats in the mines. Their movements through the dirt needed more animation and optimization. Other than that the game has been solid. IT IS FUN!!! The size of the game is also lengthy so there is a lot of exploration to discover in the game and a lot of memorization needed for previous locations to return to with the right tools/key to bring with you to proceed further. Easy to recommend the game as it is a definite buy!!! Two patches already released in the first day so dev is definately tweaking the game for the best experience.

I’m impressed. I went into it totally blind, I haven’t played or even heard of the original. I would suggest anyone playing it do the same, if possible. There are too many mansions that have nothing inside them except for zombies that I’ve already seen a zillion times, so it’s nice to explore a mansion that I genuinely have no idea about what lies in store for me as I search from room to room. This was a treat. I had completely forgotten about the original Last Half of Darkness until I saw this come out, and I’m glad I played it. While the vibes are very different, it was fun seeing how the locations and characters of the original were translated to 3D. The art direction combined with the campy sound effects bring really evoke the old school horror games for me as well. Even without knowledge of the original, I believe this version is able to stand on its own.
