Your character agrees to meeting a detective who’s somehow handling the case of your newly-inherited property, and for whatever reason you agree to meet him that night…after dark…and don’t even turn back home after: a. A roadblock of some description stops you from driving directly up to the mansion, forcing you to cut through the abovementioned village and surrounding forests on foot, and b. once you start seeing evidence of possible cultist activity in the area – creepy dolls, statuettes, altars…that kind of thing! – you STILL DON’T LEAVE. I mean: I know it’s a “horror” game, but…surely we can find slightly more solid motivations for our characters to be doing silly, scary, potentially dangerous things in the dark.. Also expect some veeeeeery obscure “solutions” to problems. For example: it took me some time to notice that I could move a chair in order to open a small, low-lying (“CTRL” for crouch!) door.

Minutes later, I was puzzling how to reach an electricity lever that someone had stashed – logically enough! – inside an upstairs chandelier that I couldn’t quite reach…even from the upper floor landing it was positioned directly next to. That is: until I looked immediately down, and saw that part of the railings surrounding said landing had a decent-sized hole where some wood had decayed away…CROUCH, again, and I’m the proud new owner of a detached lever! So, er…CROUCH A LOT, I guess!! That won’t always win the day, though. At one point, I opened a box and read a note inside it; it wasn’t until later that I realised there were two notes inside the box, overlapping each other, and when I picked up and read the second one…a KEY magically appeared on top of them both! A key that I obviously needed to progress.
