Although the game is finshed, the developer adds more and more content (vs runner mode, speed run mode, bosh rush,…) and I think it’s a perfect little game to tip a toe into exactly these kind of game modes. As I saw the first impressions of this game on Twitter I was really interested in it. Makis Adventure combines graphics and gameplay from a time beyond but still is not old fashioned.
I had direct contact to the developer and I am really impressed how involved he is in the game (of course) but also in the feedback he gets from players around the world. Makis Adventure combines the mechanics of several platformer games I know from my youth. Like that you really get how to play it quite fast. When you advance in the game you will see that the game not only sticks to one genre but uses best of a lot gaming worlds. I’ve only played a couple hours at the time of this review and I took my time while playing too, so I’m not far in yet at the time of writing this. I played the demo and it was fun. Now I’m playing the full game and it’s exactly like the demo. The game controls on a gamepad (Xbox Series wireless gamepad) are great, feels good. The changing to a shark works fast and flawless. You just touch water and instant transformation. Leave the water, even for just a split second and instant transformation back. This is what made me want to try the game and works great, even more cool that water flowing down (like a waterfall) can be swam up & down like any of the other water.

The sound effects add a lot to the fun for me. They come across a arcade sounding, like pre-2000 arcade. Luckily the difficulty factor doesn’t mirror that. This has been easy so far and quite forgiving. The game seems to be an adventure game but not heavy on the story. The story isn’t anything with much depth, pretty basic (so far) but the dialog banter between characters is fun. The name my character called the librarian gave me a chuckle, a name I can’t repeat here. The game has different areas to visit once you escape the short trek in the dungeon it starts you in. You visit these areas by an overworld section that you reach by getting to an exit of the current area you are in. When in the overworld section, you switch to a simple 3D environment. You dart around in this section pretty fast too. You don’t swim up & down here, just across the surface to visit whichever area you want to visit next.
