We affectionately call it “queer cheesy trash”. The 90s FMVs had their own charm and that included exaggerated acting, exaggerated characters and a penchant for hoarding items. We want to get back to that. Markus was recently a pretty normal average guy. He has no particular ambitions in life and keeps his head above water as a photographer of photo books of questionable quality. But when he is plagued by nightmares, he starts to investigate. And a letter addressed to him, but with the wrong surname, changes his life completely. The blood of a time-honored family of Shadowhunters beats in his heart. And with it comes a responsibility to his fellow man. For the Shadowhunters are destined to fight demonic beings, so-called ‘shadows’. One such monster is currently killing in Vienna and has already claimed countless victims. Will Markus be up to the task?
But not only the supernatural plagues our young Shadowhunter. His publisher has big plans for a book that Markus himself hasn’t even written. Will his presence in the public eye be advantageous, or will it hinder his existence as a Shadowhunter? Then there’s also his love life, which takes off at a most inconvenient time. There’s Claudia, the secretary, but also Ludwig, the charismatic digital designer. And then there’s Ro. A young woman who suddenly appears everywhere the shadow is. What’s the story behind her? The main part of the game which is investigating is done brilliantly. You need to actually read what you find, pay attention to small details, often take screenshots or take notes in addition to what the game saves for you. This in combination with fact gatherings from conversations made me easily overlook shortcomings mentioned above.

The mind map, while it could be a bit clearer and easier to navigate, is much better than in the other recent Poirot games. The puzzles are good, but some of them are difficult; you can also enter into Poirot’s head to discover mind maps and make deductions, which helps to tie all the evidence and character relations together. You can also check the character’s profile through the menu any time; he will keep taking notes of each character he encounters; make sure to check those occasionally there are many features that enhances this games, the character portraits, the conclusion tree, the choice to condemn or absolve criminals. There is really just so much depth to this game! Some of the puzzles can take quite awhile to solve, the challenge was just right.
