“I, Kelsey Burton, am on a mission to finally grow up and forget my embarrassing adolescent alter-ego – but it’s gonna be tough while still navigating friendships with clueless childhood pals & a goofy alien fangirling over my old made-up persona.” …Hey now, I take offense to this. I am grown up – and what is this about a made-up alter ego? I have no idea what that’s talking about… Should I just keep reading these off? Alright. 55K+ Words : “Six content-packed Episodes make for 6+ hours of gameplay on a first playthrough!” 4th Wall Breaks : “I’m narrating to YOU…” I guess? “Answer choices your own way to unlock three possible endings!” …Just don’t tick me off. Animation/CGs : “Sprites blink and speak! CGs and animations for key scenes make the story really pop!” CG Gallery : “40 images and other items to unlock in the Gallery!” Bonus Content : “Join Moonie for some ‘Out Of This World’ content at the end of every episode!” Original Soundtrack : “Poppy, toe-tapping music courtesy of acclaimed VN composer Melia Keys!” …Yes, that Melia Keys. I don’t get it either.
I think this experience would have been much better, if my expectations would’ve been much lower. And I’m just sad about that. I still recommend the game. It is worthwhile and may bring some tears but just set your expectations lower. Even the overall theme of the game is nothing new to me, from media far before this came out. This game is pretty awesome, in what its trying to tell you, in the way the game works and in the way the characters are written. But that’s it. The story was sometimes very readable and only few plot points came unexpected. Given the 90’s anime stylistic, retro sprites, relatable characters and soothing, pleasurable fantasy tunes, you can quickly get cozy with this title. The game just feels like this everyday cutesy story with tons of nice dialogues to read. Yeah, at least 6 out of 10 different endings check all my boxes. I very rarely say it about games, but this one is worth replaying.
Melia Keys In… Quantum Decade Direct Play:
Many different challenges await you, such as placing tiles in correct spots, standing on pressure plates in the right order or finding a phase of the moon based on hints scattered throughout a level. Some of them are easy, some of them require you to rewire your brain a little bit to understand what you’re supposed to do. It’s a perfect modern take on oldschool games’ idea of how to solve puzzles, by making you go around the level looking for clues on what to do. This game is one of the best indie games I’ve played:intriguing story, complex puzzles and I have a thing for 90s anime so I fell in love with the artstyle at the start. I will say that I think the story ran a little too long for me, and at times it was confusing to tie some parts together.
