About The Game
About half a year before the opening of the patisserie, La Soleil where the catgirls work with Kashou. Back when Chocola and Vanilla were still kittens when they first arrived at the Minaduki household and before they opened up to the other catgirls. NEKOPARA Extra is an extra episode in the NEKOPARA visual novel series that was part of a stretch goal from the NEKOPARA OVA crowdfunding campaign! The lovable catgirls, Chocola and Vanilla, are back and this time the story focuses on their first arrival at the Minaduki household before the events of NEKOPARA Vol. 1. About half a year before the opening of the patisserie, La Soleil where the catgirls work with Kashou. Back when Chocola and Vanilla were still kittens when they first arrived at the Minaduki household and before they opened up to the other catgirls. It’s then that they gradually began to call Kashou “master”, experienced their first Christmas, and shared a promise with Kashou.
Nekopara Extra tells us about the arrival of chocola and vanilla in the Minaduki family and their first Christmas. Do not expect a very long story, this Extra is an appetizer for the Nekopara series but it is still pleasant to follow and has its charm. Personally, I find the different characters endearing and I always have a pinch when the credits roll. Technically, we are still using the same graphic style as the Nekopara and we also find the e mote system which allows the faces of the characters to be animated. so that’s probably why Blake doesn’t feel as trapped as Miles. Hence, the lack of anxiety and dread in his voice. 2) Being in a limbo of hallucination and reality, the occasional school flashbacks throw the protagonist off-guard especially during any chase scenes which creates more confusion than panic within his mind and reduces his awareness to his surroundings due to his growing inability to distinguish between past and present. This is the core difference in the psychological welfare of both characters as Miles did not have any inner demons to face hence was hyper aware to his surroundings (even fading footsteps caused a hitch in his breaths).
Outlast 2, all in all, is actually okay. I hope the developer brings back the old gamestyle than what has been presented in Outlast 2. Story-wise, I have to agree with most reviewers. Repressed trauma (psychological horror) and cult chase (survival horror) do not blend well together as one genre will definitely overpower or underwhelm the other. It’s like tailoring your customer demographics to both B2B and B2C- there is no niche and leaves a confusing trail. I would suggest focusing on one and tailoring the game elements to it (Outlast 2 lacks stealth. Since Outlast 1 is solely on survival horror, stealth is equivalent to outsmarting your enemies and was as important as running during the chase). Personally, I believe Outlast 2 is Red Barrels’ experiment of adjustment in terms of settings, pacing and niche to see which is the better fit for their players. The mechanics in Outlast 2 remains (night vision, stealth, chase) but in Outlast 2, it’s obvious that the developer decides to reduce the intensity (the nostalgic high pitched Outlast bg music during any chase isn’t present until 60-70% into the game) and difficulty (during Normal mode, the enemies give up the chase WAY TOO quickly) to balance with the added complexity (open world, use of bandages, river sequences). This was a bold move on the developer’s part and I don’t mind but for those who finished Outlast and are eager to play the sequel, do set the game to HARD mode. Spoiler
