Despite the popularity of Kashou Minaduki’s patisserie, “La Soleil”, his father continues to disapprove of it.Seeing how troubled Kashou was, Shigure offers up a suggestion as a change of pace. A hot springs trip with Chocola, Vanilla and the other catpanions. With Azuki and Coconut’s encouragement, Kashou is determined to confront his father while Maple and Cinnamon suggest a trip to France to seek advice from the teacher who taught him his craft. But why is Shigure also tagging along!? An encounter with a new catgirl in France… This story is a heartwarming cat comedy about the growth Kashou experiences through his catpanions and the bonds with them and his family… with a little ecchi on the side, too. Nekopara Vol.4 is the 4th in line, but 6th released game in the series. It continues the lighthearted fluff the series is known for, keeping to their roots of simple kinetic visual novel story, with charming art & pleasant music alongside it (though many of the tracks are the same as all previous titles).
This one has a stronger focus on Kashou, the title character, rather than any of the girls. This is actually a welcome change of pace, showcasing aspects of the character’s insecurities & desire to improve his craft. It also gives a bit of the focus onto Shigure, Kashou’s little sister, & thankfully Kashou’s continual pushback on her romantic relations of her. Besides that, the VN is what one would expect from the series by this point. Nekopara Vol.4 is just another entry in the Nekopara series. The story beats are a little different each time, but it really does nothing to attempt to grab readers & make each title stand out as something different from every other title. It still is competent, but it’s done nothing besides just being more of the same.

For fans of the series, this makes it as easy recommendation, but for anyone else, it’s more difficult. As it’s harmless, I can’t give it a negative recommendation, though starting at part 4 of a story that doesn’t care about catching new readers up or crafting a story that can be told by itself should let one know they should start at Vol.1 for a proper try. As stated in previous reviews, the slightly uncanny valley effect the moving characters have can be a little unnerving, but the series is known for it at this point. With this, it becomes more difficult to not just copy this section out from previous reviews.
