About The Game
Nightmare of Decay is a first-person action horror game set in a nightmarish manor. After going to bed one night you awaken to find yourself trapped in a manor infested with zombies, psychotic cultists, and a horde of other horrors. You must utilize an assortment of different weapons and limited resources in a brutal fight for survival as you try to escape from the nightmare…or die trying. Zombies cant be shaken off like in most other Survival horror games, kinda screws with ammo management. Survival horror games are based on numbers of opportunities and resources, and this impacts the ratio greatly. lead to many reloading of saves as I knew this broke the opportunity system you have in games like RE for example.
I saw other people complain about armed cultist, but they are actually fairly easy when you have cover (like the courtyard situation) I could essentially snipe them. I think its more an issue of which room they are in Extremely well-made pixel art that looks sharp and clear. Everything is detailed, from the smallest grunt to the main characters’ sprites, there’s GREAT use of colour, everything is vibrant and shiny, and things that need to stand out DO stand out, and that applies to both environmental hazards and enemies. Animations are great, and convey the sense of impact that needs to be conveyed when needed.
here’s something I wasn’t expecting when I played this for the first time: The soundtrack goes really, REALLY hard, featuring a wide variety of instruments while the compositions themselves are, honestly, fantastic. I can remember a great chunk of the soundtrack from memory, and that’s how you know it succeeded in being memorable. None of the songs are grating, and the sound effects are another welcome surprise – They manage to be very distinct from other video game sfx, and citing Half-Life and especially its sequel as a comparison, if you hear a sound effect from this game somewhere else, you’ll instantly recognize where they came from. They are VERY punchy and unique.
