Oaken, a turn-based tactical roguelike set in the spirit inhabited world. Explore the Great Oak, gather allies and trinkets, learn to use the positioning for your advantage, choose how to upgrade your cards. Wake the spirits and save the Oak! The world of Oaken is a mythical place, existing in a not easily defined space and time. It is stretched among the branches of the Great Oak. Its inhabitants are spirits which listen to the same voice, called the Oak Song. The loss of that voice starts a series of events leading into a struggle which may either heal or destroy the Great Oak. This is a roguelike turn-based strategy game with cards. It is quite familiar in many aspects – and yet somehow strange and unusual in some ways. Even some common gameplay components have unusual names.
You play “The Lady” (a second hero is unlockable) with a Guide (chose 1 of 4 unlockable powerful companions) on a small map with hexagonal tiles. You fight against evil spirits and have to reach certain goals to win a level – and most levels come with special rules. Casting spells, summoning creatures, moving them, and ordering them to attack is the main gameplay loop. Your main unit (The Lady) must not die. You have a deck of cards, which contains creatures and spells. During battles, you draw up to four cards at the beginning of each of your turns and can then play them, as long as you have enough Lumi.

In terms of the puzzles, I like that they are all solve-able without needing to consult a guide. Even for those that I do not know the solution, randomly clicking and dragging the mouse around would eventually result in solving it even if I do not understand how is that the solution. The same can be said for the steam achievements, you only need to replay the last chapter once to get the alternative ending for a perfect steam achievements list for this game The biggest minus, is that you cannot make your own safe point. You have to finish an entire chapter of the story, for the game itself to save it. But still, even if you do so, there might be an error crushing the save down – and that is why I decided to finish the game on one non-stop run (that nearly caused my laptop to melt down lol). Apart from that, second minus is how some of the mini games are constructed. If part of them is very cleverly made and works fine, some others are routine based or complete energy and mood drainers. If you can surpass that as a gamer, it will be fine.
