About The Game
Help Frank, a burnt out indie game developer, rediscover his love for video games while struggling to release his debut title. Reprogram objects, fix bugs and solve coding puzzles as you journey through the story of One Dreamer. A narrative-driven, emotional story about the gruelling development process behind making an indie game. Realistic, but easy to understand pseudocode puzzles based on C#. Edit over 350 snippets of code from Frank’s toaster to playable mini-games. Meet an extensive cast of charming characters, complete with full English voice acting. Explore a wide range of atmospheric, pixel by pixel drawn environments. A beautiful original soundtrack composed over a period of 7 years. I am significantly bias, as I myself am already a software engineer, but if you’re willing to use your head and read quite a bit of text to solve some programming problems you’ll do great. You won’t actually be programming physically with a keyboard, but rather pointing and clicking to information that you’ll need to solve the problems.
The story itself is phenomenal, it can get a bit depressing, but it really sets the mood for how difficult it can be to achieve a dream. I’ve been rooting for the characters the entire time while solving each individual problem. The coolest part is how solving the problems will affect later parts of the games. In other words if you don’t clean up after yourself, it will definitely come back to bite you in the butt, good job Gareth As a software developer who was forced to get a job that pays the bills instead of pursuing their game development dream, this hits close to home. You don’t actually go choosing the other job thinking that you’ll let go of the dream of making a game. You actually get the job thinking you’ll make time to develop a game, but it never happens. Life will place obstacles and every hurdle is higher than the last. So, when I say I broke when I found out that I’ve let go of the dream without realizing it, believe me. And that still breaks me to this day.
One Dreamer Pre-Installed:
Pixel Graphics using the Modern Pixel art style. Certain artwork in the game do not follow the common pixel size shown in the game, but other than that, everything is pretty great. Graphic Settings: Resolution can be changed and both UI and HUD scale change to match selected resolution. Also, there is one setting that controls the graphic present called Quality, and it can be set to Low, Medium, and High. Setting it to low seems to drop my FPS to ~50 FPS, otherwise, I could not detect the difference between the quality settings. Optimizations: Since this is a 2D pixel art game and I am using a strong enough PC, I did not detect any FPS drops from playing this game aside from the aforementioned Low Quality setting. Setting it to low doesn’t increase GPU or CPU usage, so I am not quite sure what’s causing the slowdown.
