OUTBRK Video Game It is a storm chasing simulation game being developed for PC set in a fictive reproduction of America’s tornado alley. Experience the wonder of nature and compete against other chasers as you put yourself into random scenarios based on real life weather events. Prepare to have too close for comfort encounters with tornadoes, fight your way through torrential downpours, while avoiding hazards of extreme weather. Take the role of a professional storm chaser and make use of your risk management skills to gather valuable data from severe weather. What they were explaining is that the game is less of a storm chasing game and more of a weather simulator. So from that aspect, it’s pretty impressive. Weather systems are generated and evolve/devolve. Tornadoes are never guaranteed. The weather dynamics are seriously impressive under the hood. I’ve been smacked in the head with more than a few hailstones LOL. Radar and velocity screens work and look just like the real ones like on Radar Omega.
Playing with a group of people racing throughout the map trying to find tornadoes is seriously fun, though driving in the game is pretty rudimentary and sometimes hard to control (at least with a keyboard and mouse, as I haven’t tried using my controller yet. The game performance and graphics, like several other reviews have mentioned. I have to run on medium settings to get a playable framerate. The graphics are very lacking and very poor quality. Most of the textures look straight out of a late 90’s/2000’s game. Animated raindrop textures on the windshield/widows are mapped in such a way that you can easily see the tiling. There is no dynamic projected lighting (yet), as when it gets dark, you can’t see your headlights reflecting off of anything, no streetlamps or signs lighting the area around them etc. I’m not sure what game/graphics engine they used but other games such as GTA, American Truck Simulator, Far Cry 5, Star Citizen etc. All of which work flawlessly on my computer, so I can’t understand why this game runs so poorly even with the low quality visuals.
OUTBRK Pre-Installed:
(Obviously those are all triple-A games with huge teams and budgets, so honestly can’t really compare to some extent). The current game world feels empty and post-apocalyptic. No animals, no NPCs, no AI traffic, sparse vegetation. Overall the game world just… well it just looks bad. It takes away from the immersion of the game. Sky and clouds, great. The rest of the world, not so much. The clouds and weather mechanics and physics are fantastic. Science and weather nerds will appreciate the mechanics of the weather system and the overall gameplay. But as of right now (the day after initial EA release) I can’t see the game appealing to a very wide audience because of the lacking eye-candy. And again, to be fair this is the day after initial release. But honestly I was expecting a more fleshed out game on release, especially at the $35 price point and considering the game had been in development for over 5 years now.
