PixelOver offers a variety of pixel-art oriented filters, including dithering and indexation, as well as real-time animation tools like keyframe animation and bone rigging with pixel-art resampler to ensure your animations maintain a pixel-perfect look. Recently been working on a personal project in GMS-2 that includes a variety of melee weapons which have animations. Up to this point I’ve been using Aseprite. Issue is that in Aseprite when you rotate an object it tends to get horribly distorted around 45 degrees. So much so that you may as well give up and completely redraw it at that angle. So what am I getting at here? Basically, I was ecstatic to see this program do near perfect rotations of pixel art. Seriously, that feature alone makes it worth it for me. Right now I’ve only used the program for like, 10 minutes-ish. Just opening it, doing a quick rotation, and exporting. So I still have a ton to test out in this program. Like figuring out how to animate in it and use the trail feature.
This program is a perfect for sprite animators such as myself. I’ve been looking for a good program to feel like modern prerendering, and this was the program. It supports 3d, and 2d animations. That’s right, flash animations, but it’s pixel art. This is a really good program, especially in early access. The cons are that it doesn’t have an easy way to edit sprites, that it doesn’t have autosave, and that it’s not the most optimized. Again, I love what you’re doing here, but if you just update the optimization, this program will be way better. This software is a fantastic tool to make pixelart animation. It will save you countless hours of works and delivers beautiful results. You can imput 2d sprites, 2d animations, 3d, it doesn’t matter, it can handle it all. You can even make 3d sprites from 2d sprites.
PixelOver Free Steam Pre-Installed:
Truly a superb tool and I can’t recommend it enough. It has a chef kiss of an interface, very intuitive, and every parameter is able to be keyframed during the animation. Once you tried PixelOver, it’s a one way road, it becomes part of your workflow. It’s kinda of ironic that this was built in Godot because it’s a million times better than Godot’s build in rigging tool. Seriously Godot should invest in funding this. There some freezing and lagging on export but it doesn’t happen often and the software if fairly knew so I’m sure it’ll be patched up soon. From the animation suite and timelines to one a fantastic set of image reduction algorithms, this does a lot of very neat things and I still feel I’ve barely scratched the surface.
