Prison City Direct Download
Prison City is an action-packed side-scrolling shooter where players use chakrams and grenades to battle through various levels, defeat bosses, and uncover hidden upgrades. The game features customizable gameplay and difficulty, a ‘Boss Rush’ mode for players to compete for the best time, and an excellent retro soundtrack by Raddland Studios. Prison City is packed with nods and homages to classic action movies and games from the 80s and 90s, including iconic one-liners, memorable characters, and familiar gameplay mechanics. Fans of the action genre will feel right at home. Players will fight their way across an entire city, grappling through eight or more zones that range from sewers and factories to nature preserves. Each zone presents its own unique challenges, from environmental hazards to powerful bosses that will put your skills to the test.
The crime-ridden and crumbling city of Detroit was evacuated in 1995 and became an impenetrable mega-prison. In the present-day (of 1997) an evil group has infiltrated and seized control. Former cop Hal Bruzer is called back from retirement by his mentor, “The Chief,” to take down the ‘Techno-Terrorists’ and their appointed Wardens… to hopefully, bring the ‘spirit’ of Detroit back!! You’re Hal, a plucky mercenary sent into Prison City to clean up crime. The game plays a bit like the following NES games combined: TMNT, Batman, Castlevania. The reason I use those games is because it has a very Castlevania movement feeling, but combat feels more like Batman, and some of the artwork reminds me heavily of TMNT. These are all good things, and Programancer has done an exceptional job of creating a game that captures the spirit of some timeless classics.
Prison City Direct Play:
I sucked at this game. I played it on easy, because I just wanted a chill experience. This is not a chill experience. It’s a pretty hardcore platformer with difficult boss battles, some complicated platforming, and some frustrating call-backs to the 90s era platformers of the NES. The first half of the game for me, about an hour, was in the game’s first 8 levels. A quest to find and defeat the Wardens of Prison City. Each level having its own theme, each level having its very own boss fight. The levels felt unique, and had their own specific themes that were pretty satisfying experiences. The boss battles also shared the same level of uniqueness, with great designs and fun combat. Graphically it was appealing and each level’s appearance was well suited to the name of the level.
