It’s been an issue affecting my real life as well. I can’t start new things and hobbies because of how much I suck at the beginning and it pushes me away from it. But when I learned about Rain World, and how different it was from usual games, something in me wanted to try it out. The fact that in order to enjoy this game you have to treat it differently.
I saw a review on here that stood out to me when I chose to get the game. The reviewer talked about how, the moment they stopped treating it like a typical game, it became an amazing experience. When they stopped caring so much about the Karma(which isn’t hard to manage anyways), and instead of exploring and experiencing the world itself, and truly living in it and surviving, did they begin to actually enjoy the game. And so I got the game. And it was amazing. Looking at the vast majority of the negative reviews of this game, all of them approached the game with the wrong mindset, and quit early as a result of how unenjoyable the game was. I really don’t think it has to be the case though, I strongly believe anyone can play this game, provided with the right mindset. As someone who had so much difficulty with coping with failure, this game has magnificently taught me how to fail. I need to brag here, but what I was most proud of, even more than my accomplishments, was how good I was at failing. I honestly dealt with failing so well that it didn’t even feel as punishing as most people would say. Once I stopped fearing and caring about failure, the game became so much more enjoyable.
