About The Game
Even if you don’t like point-and-click games, gorogoa is beautiful to experience. you get the hang of how it works pretty fast, but it makes you think a little bit eventually. in my opinion it’s not a difficult puzzle game in any way, but its puzzles are interesting and unique and drive a captivating story. the main downside to this game is how short it is and how fast you can get all the achievements, but that’s understandable given the care put into the art and story. Sound design is minimal, but atmospheric and fitting. This is a short game, but well worth your time. I myself went back to finish it three additional times, just because there’s something relaxing about moving the story tiles around and seeing everything comes together. However, I am disappointed there isn’t a bit more extra content. I’d love to be able to unlock something like a developer commentary to learn about the behind the scenes of the game, and and art gallery where you can explore some of the intricate backgrounds of the game. Both are things which shouldn’t tax the devs too much, and would add to the experience a game of “what if I try”. It’s also a nicely drawn game. I like that it’s a peaceful non-addictive puzzle game. Some solutions I can logically figure out. Some things just work by trying things out. I only manage to do a little in each session, but that’s a plus. It’s easy enough to put the game down and resume on another day.
In this game you play as a very orange silverback gorilla trying to escape a lab of some sort killing and maiming any soldiers or random civilians along the way. Honestly, the most relatable character in any video game. The gameplay takes heavy inspiration from Hotline Miami with its top down POV and maze-like level designs. Except of course you’re a gorilla. As a gorilla, you can simply smash enemies into walls, into each other, and use as meatsheilds which will also make them shoot their respected firearm against their fellow man. This allows you to get creative with how you barrel through these randomly generated levels. My favorite thing about Ape Out would have to be the sound design. Ape Out has a very chaotic and jazzy soundtrack with varying levels of intensity, this is compounded with every kill you get adding a loud symbol bash along with a satisfying crunch. All in all a very simple game, but truly beautiful.
I love the concept of this game – what would it be like to play from Mother´s or HAL´s perspective? Playing as the station´s computer, Sam, you slowly regain access to the rest of the station´s systems while helping seemingly the only inhabitant, Emma. Something has gone wrong somewhere and you need to find out what it was to help Emma survive. It definitely needs some time getting used to be controlling only the cameras and floating camera spheres. The movement feels a bit clunky (played on keyboard) but it kinda fits the setting. It gave me Alien: Isolation vibes or even some passage felt horror like. The mystery leaves you with plenty of questions and barely any answers, at first. There are hints here and there and plenty of logs to find and read but you can get locked out of some if you progress with the story too fast. What I found annoying is that the important documents blended in too well with the environments and it was hard to find things. The game can be completed under 10h and I felt it could have been longer and have more freedom while playing. Many events are rather linear and you are limited in what you can do in certain sections unless certain conditions are met. This was a slight disappointment that the exploration is much more on rails than it appears at first glance.
