As always, the voice acting is decent, too, and the beefy weapon sounds make the gunplay very satisfying, but as someone who is not into latin music at all (to be honest i find it rather annoying), I was anything but happy with the soundtrack this time, even though it is fitting for the setting of course. The gunplay is great, they have very good VFX and they feel fun to play. Guns are pretty versatile and extremely fun to combo with each other. Amazingly, you can use your guns’ different status effects on all enemies and bosses. Good storytelling with great visuals and graphics. Puzzles and other hacking sections are cool to change the tempo and add variety. Poor optimization, unlike other Playstation ports on PC. Overall, a really fun time. Definitely recommended. I do have a gripe with the controls, though: as a console launch-window exclusive game, this game has some of its design centred around the New Hardware Gimmick of the Generation. In this case, many weapons have alternate firing modes, which you can only activate through a DualSense’s adaptive triggers.

If, like myself, you don’t have a DualSense but an Xbox controller, that means you simply cannot use the alternate firing modes. It’s not a game-breaker, but achievement hounds beware: there is an achievement that asks you to use a particular weapon’s alternate mode a set amount of times, and without a DualSense, that’s basically impossible as far as I can tell. The puzzle sections are also laughably easy, I think one in the entire game required some thought on my part. This is one of the things that annoyed me, bumping up the difficulty won’t make these sections any less boring, they’re so easy they might as well not even be in the game at all, and they only last about 5 minutes tops. I wouldn’t call this blind nostalgia either, I replayed Going Commando a few years ago and some of the puzzles are trivial, while others are fairly interesting.
