Rock ‘N Racing Off Road DX Video Game The game offers the most entertaining and exciting races, with loads of skids, crashes and amazing jumps. You will have several modes of play, such as Cup mode, time trial and multi-player with the option of up to 4 Players at a time. Online ranking table where you can compare your best times with friends and players from around the world. Back in the nostalgic days of my ZX Spectrum and Master System gaming, there was a gem that stood the test of time: Ivan Ironman Offroad. Its four trucks, 32 tracks, and tight handling made it a timeless classic. Fast forward to today, I was hopeful that Unfinished Pixel’s latest venture, Off Road DX, would recapture that magic. Unfortunately, my optimism took a nosedive, and here’s why. While the graphics in Off Road DX are commendable, the AI often hits the barriers. The game’s tracks, though diverse in terms of layouts, struggle to bring excitement due to their simplistic designs. Whether it’s a circle, a figure of eight, or a giant B shape, the lack of variety leaves you yearning for more. Odd and quirky gradients on the tracks initially add charm, but the non-linear presentation makes it challenging to discern hills from the overall perspective.
My biggest complaint from Unfinished Pixel’s previous game, Rock N Racing Grand Prix, was the handling of vehicles. Off Road DX, unfortunately, doesn’t fully remedy this issue. The single-player campaign, divided into five mini-championships of four races each, introduces a range of vehicles. However, as you progress, the unlocked trucks become too fast for the tracks, resulting in a frustrating experience. Braking and turning, essential elements in an arcade racer, lack the proportional feel needed for smooth gameplay. The slipstream effect, seemingly out of place for trucks, only adds to the unbalanced handling dynamics. The AI in Off Road DX seems optimized for specific tracks and vehicles. Experimenting with different combinations often leads to AI vehicles getting stuck, driving backward, or coming to a standstill. Even on simple oval tracks, the AI struggles to navigate, diminishing the single-player experience. This persistent issue echoes Unfinished Pixel’s previous misstep with Grand Prix, making the game nearly unplayable when flying solo. For those who prefer a shared gaming experience, Rock ‘N Racing DX offers offline multiplayer for up to four players. Players can choose from any unlocked vehicles, although the missed opportunity to allow friends immediate access to all vehicles may raise eyebrows.
Rock ‘N Racing Off Road DX Direct Play:
With dwindling options for a demotivated solo player, Off Road DX offers a scant Championship mode with no customization, a rigid time trial mode dependent on the chosen car, and a local multiplayer option for up to four players. Surprisingly, the game performs better with human opponents who can navigate the overexcitable car physics. Moments of genuine fun emerge in multiplayer, but frustration lingers due to the game’s untapped potential. It’s disheartening to see a title so close to competence fall short in achieving the delicate balance of playability, precision, and skill. For those seeking a solo challenge, Time Trials provide an option to select a vehicle and championship. However, instead of racing on a single track to set a time, you embark on a journey through the entire championship, culminating in a final time. While the concept is intriguing, racing alone through the entirety of a championship can feel a tad dull. The decision to record the best time for the entire championship, rather than individual track times, may disappoint some players craving more immediate feedback. Nevertheless, the post-track breakdowns, showcasing times per track, total time, and best time, add a competitive edge.
