Because there are collectible origami birds, and finding them can add just the slightest bit more to the tale. You can see how many you’ve collected in the top right corner of the screen, but more helpful is the ‘Revisit’ section of the Menu, which will show you how many you’ve collected (and missed) per chapter. You can, I assume, replay a chapter at any time and not lose your progress.
There are no HINTS available, but in general, you won’t need them. The puzzles tend to be on the easy-to-figure-out side, as the driving force behind this game is learning the story. Gathering the birds can be a little trickier, but it’s obvious that the devs WANT you to complete the game A recent highly rated “helpful” negative review said that the puzzles get repetitive. I didn’t find this to be so, at least not enough to suck the joy out of the game. Up until the very last act, the game is introducing new elements to how puzzles work in every act. Granted, there’s a lot of box pushing and experimenting to figure out how all the elements are going to change the shadows, and it would have helped if what was going to happen had been more obvious. But I generally found the puzzles engaging and did not find them routine or repetitive near the end. The puzzles kept getting harder with a steady progression, and the new mechanic for the final act really kept it fresh. And the rewind mechanism (vs dying and starting over at a checkpoint) makes experimenting very quick and easy.

The actress’ normal voice is lovely. The child is… shrill. It took me awhile to get used to it, but it did stop bothering me. And the reviewer noted above is right, she does get peevish and, well, childish. Because she’s a child, who is angry, and afraid, and just wants to be left alone. It makes sense that she gets this way when her world view and what she sees as her safe space is challenged. I felt the writers knew exactly what they were doing all the way through the end. Is this an accurate representation of someone struggling with anxiety or self-doubt? No. Is it an intriguing story, as a metaphorical representation of internal struggle? Yes. I think that’s the important thing to remember… the game is not a representation of a real-world psychological healing process. It’s not meant to be, it’s a game. But as someone who _does_ struggle with some of the anxieties touched upon in the game (people watching me, not wanting to leave my “safe space”), I felt very connected to it. And I felt seen by someone recognizing my difficulties.
