The game begins with Sonic infiltrating Dr. Eggman’s space fortress, attacking a robotic army while in his Super Sonic form. This breaks the planet into pieces and awakens Dark Gaia, a monstrous force of destruction. The shockwave also affects Sonic, turning him into the “Werehog”—a stronger but slower beastly version of himself that only appears at night. Eggman launches Sonic into space, believing he’s won. Sonic lands on Earth and meets Chip, a mysterious small creature with no memory of his past. Together, they travel across the world to restore the shattered continents by returning power to the Gaia Temples and recharging the Chaos Emeralds.
