Zombies are strong, special zombies can easily grab you and if you get incapacitated, you will definitely lose maximum health which can be recovered later and few other things that makes SoD1 better than SoD2.
The major focus I have on this game is the stamina meter, because it’s just important. SoD2 allowed people to sprint forever (even if their stamina ran out) and shake off zombies very easily, but SoD1 forces you to stick with your stamina meter. If your stamina runs out, you will be vulnerable, because you run slower, do actions slower and zombies could easily overtake you, thus items that replenish your stamina would really come in handy. My biggest con this game offers is babysitting. Just like SoD2, you have to do repetitive missions during your run. HOWEVER, they don’t appear as often as in SoD2 and you can simply just ignore them, decreasing your morale (happiness) on your community which can be easily increased again. It’s not a huge issue, but it will annoy some players on their playthrough. With an almost 1400 hour combined playtime in this edition and the original, I have to say, that this is the best game of this kind I’ve ever played. Even though it’s very repetitive in nature, it still keeps being extremely replayable with Breakdown. I enjoy taking my time in each level, scavenging every single known location on the map, and finding new survivors to level up and specialize in different things. I also decided to start a gun collection, by collecting one of every unique firearm in the game in my supply locker; that was a fun goal, and kept the locker from being filled up by snacks and poor quality melee weapons. I like setting up little challenges for myself, like running on foot to a certain location to pick up stuff I left there, even though there are 8 vehicles at base, and another 4 nearby out of the vehicle relocation radius. I like using insanely loud firearms like shotguns with a shotgun expert and see for how long I can keep up blasting zeds before the spawns get out of hand due to the noise. Things like that.
