About The Game
STEINS;GATE is the award-winning time travel science-fiction interactive visual novel developed by 5pb. and Nitroplus. It is widely considered to be one of the finest Visual Novels ever made. STEINS;GATE follows a rag-tag band of tech-savvy young students who discover the means of changing the past via mail, using a modified microwave. Their experiments into how far they can go with their discovery begin to spiral out of control as they become entangled in a conspiracy surrounding SERN, the organisation behind the Large Hadron Collider, and John Titor who claims to be from a dystopian future. Interaction with the game takes place through the “phone trigger” system, where the player can receive calls and text messages and decide whether to reply to them or not, changing the outcome of the game’s plot.
The best sci-fi visual novel I ever played. Okabe is an outstanding MC with an unique personality and absolutely hilarious at several moments. This story has the perfect balance between being funny and very serious. Some parts of the story will get you on the edge of your seat. The characters are all very distinctive and with their own personalities. The game will make you consider if it’s really worth inventing time travel and all that comes with such technology. I completely underestimated visual novels as a medium. I genuinely expected the gameplay to be tedious, but I ended up spending the past two weeks grinding through the story whenever I found the opportunity to do so. There was never a moment in which I didn’t want to know what came next. Furthermore, I think that the Phone Trigger System is a wonderful game mechanic that allows players to stay engaged without disrupting the flow of the story.
