We wanted to create a different player experience with a new combat and progression system.
Both games can be played independently. Rather than giving you pure power upgrades post-match (like many overly grindy games of the genre do) your rewards in SfLS are new weapons, characters or skill nodes to increase playstyle variety and customize your run. Rather than simply making enemies takier, run difficulty can add hazards such as traps to the map, which will vary in form and function based on the map you are playing. Striving for Light Survival (SoLS) is a spin-off of the devs rather unsuccessful Striving for Light. Rather than being a foreboding weakness, this however has proven to be the game’s strength – by offering a great amount of variety, content and complex, yet fleshed out systems taken from its big brother.

Very nice survival auto shooter game. I really like the somewhat gloomy setting and also the beautiful, subtle, ambient analog synthesizer music. The game is very challenging, you can unlock tons of skills and have to plan well in the skill tree. It’s definitely a lot of fun and just the thing to relax and challenge at the same time. I gave it a prolonged try, more than enough to complete some achievements, maybe make up a solid strategy and tactics. Surprisingly, this game grew on me. It’s a Survivors with a skill tree attached similar to what you find in ARPGs. But you die often and so you can reroll builds. The more skills you get, the less attack speed you have. Stacking skills that aren’t your primary way of dealing damage is just a net loss for your deeps and skill points.
