Stubbs is one of the most unique zombie games through its setting and its gameplay. Both the storyline and world are as absurd and ridiculous as possible, making for a very funny and memorable gameplay experience. Playing as the zombie is different than the usual fighting of zombies as humans that most video games and movies do. This results in interesting mechanics like eating brains to create more zombies, using various body parts as weapons like throwing explosive organs, or a toxic fart that stuns enemies using a detachable hand to control a human’s mind and use their guns and weapons. Stubbs can drive vehicles, and other special ways of interacting with the environment that break up eating people constantly. Everyone that is eaten reaninmates as a zombie, allowing the player to create hoards that can help fight the humans. Stubbs has to fight armed civilians, rural militia, police officers, and the military as he takes over the city and infects as many citizens as he can. The story, characters, and most special moments will not be spoiled here, but the story is extremely memorable, silly, and non-stop fun with its caricature of 1950s American life.

Stubbs has one of the best soundtracks in any video game ever made, and I own and still listen to the physical CD from back when the game came out on Xbox to this day. The soundtrack contains many different modern day alternative rock covers of beloved 1950s songs by many famous bands like Cake and Death Cab for Cutie. The soundtrack is underutilized in the game itself, only really used during an absurd dance-off scene to great effect. The soundtrack is so amazing it should be listened to on its own whether you are a fan of this game or not, so go check it out! Stubbs is a very short game, and can be beaten in just over an hour during a speed run attempt, but has endless replay value for its entertaining story, world, and unique gameplay. Stubbs the Zombie was created in the Halo engine, so it plays very well, and the vehicle physics, explosives, and death screens are all very similar. to Halo CE. There are many different difficulties to play on, and the game supports online co-op play, but only through split screen. Perhaps the best part of Stubbs is its ability to offer co-op for FREE through Steam Remote Play, so if one person owns Stubbs, they can host a game and invite a friend to play co-op with them for free.
