In SuchArt you are a genius artist living in the year 2130. Make the best of the space studio you own. Create art with a large variety of tools, sell your works, get famous and upgrade your studio! Let your imagination run wild and create the art of your dreams! Turn the world around you into a huge canvas and do whatever you please with it — add some red to that gloomy wall, spill paint on the floor and call it abstract expressionism, or start a collection of alphabet paintings from A to Z: this place is yours after all! Wait, how did you mess up your studio that much that fast? Not satisfied with the initial look and/or functionality of your studio? That’s okay, because you can always unlock new rooms, buy some furniture and decorations, and place those however and wherever you want — make yourself at home! Wait, what do you mean you don’t have enough money?! Sell your paintings at the marketplace, fulfill all your clients’ orders, and receive a generous reward, or maybe a gift! Or maybe some exposure, the best of all currencies out there. Don’t forget that you can exhibit your amazing art and see what critics have to say about it.
Painting in SuchArt feels just like in real life, but without the downsides. The colors mix as you would naturally expect them to, so you can easily achieve the result you dreamed about. The paint has realistic texture, and each instrument alters it a bit with different strokes. There’s plenty of instruments to choose from: brushes, palette knives, stencils or even flamethrowers to create your next masterpiece. If you’re the sort of person who loves to mess around with paint tools with a side of Unity Simulator elements (such as physically picking up tools, brushes, paints, etc.), and don’t mind the lack of fine tools. It stands to be a very relaxing experience, with that little rewarding feedback loop when you sell paintings (they’re also saved in a virtual archive, so no worries about actually losing them to the void of the marketplace I was looking at more of a therapeutic but still mostly true-to-art-software experience. I struggle with perfectionism in my art to a severe degree, and being able to simply slap paint on canvas without any real personal pressure was an alluring prospect.
Unfortunately, the SD textures (stark pixelation on fine brushes) and general Microsoft Paint style method of creation left me wanting. I’m a hard stickler for detail, so the lack of paint glossing or smooth brushstrokes really set my bells off. My Bamboo also didn’t seem to register very well with the paint rollers in particular, leaving massive holes in each stroke. There doesn’t seem to be any Advanced settings relating to pressure sensitivity, only pen movement sensitivity. I left a wonderful review on the demo, and I’ve come to restate it a few months shy of this games one year anniversary. The demo was beautiful, but the full game has TRULY knocked my mother fudging socks off! In the beginning, there was a few bugs, but the devs are quick to listen, quick to please. The game is absolutely gorgeous with the many options for what lies beyond your studio, and is full of plenty of tools to make a digital masterwork.
