Super Kiwi 64 is a 3D-Platformer and Collect-a-Thon, in a low poly late 90s console look. Super Kiwi 64 is really good. The level design has a solid flow to it, you wont find yourself losing track of collectables or getting lost. The move-set and overall feel of the game is really smooth; Kiwi controls extremely tightly and has a very fun set of abilities to boot. As Kiwi is a flightless bird, he has a little jet-pack he uses to glide around the map. He can run very fast with a sprint and can also thrust forward using his beak as an attack and also the optimal form of movement for speedrunning, (which i will get into soon). there’s more here too which is crazy considering the price tag of $2. The speedrunning potential for this game is off the charts and I’m sad less people know about it,, I can’t wait to come back to this game when I’m bored and just see how fast I can beat it.
The art style is very reminiscent of Banjo Kazooie or Conker and it nails it. I felt odd waves of nostalgia playing a game I had just bought off a whim. This game has that classic Siactro “psychological horror” feel to it, and this is what I really wanted to talk about. The sound design in this game is unparalleled. For some reason the sound effects in these games are significantly louder than the Soundtrack itself and I’m SURE it’s done on purpose. The waves crashing in the Pirate level mixed with the oddly eerie swelling of bass made me think something was out there in the ocean, (there wasn’t, I checked), but it was odd feeling THAT stressed out from a 2 dollar collectathon platformer.

Soundtrack bangs like crazy in every stage, however I want to make a note on the first level. The soundtrack is very DK64, yet it’ll linger on specific notes for a little too long and again, its a masterful showcase of subtle sound design. very eerie stuff and I’m very excited to see if it follows through to Macbat 64. My only real negative I have with this game being you have to reset your saves in the games folders if u want to restart, as there is no “New Game/Load Game” function present here.
- Low poly late 90s retro looks.
- Kiwi can jump, glide, corkscrew-attack and stick to walls in order to jump up almost every wall.
- The levels can be played in any order, and not every level needs to be finished in order to collect enough to reach the ending.
- Features a bird with a long beak!
