About The Game
Swarm Queen is a quick-to-learn, tactical, and challenging tug-of-war strategy game about insect-like aliens battling over Jupiter’s moon, Europa. Your beautiful minions control themselves, using “fuzzy logic” to pick the best target. Since your swarm fights on its own, your job as the queen is to focus on strategy. Gather resources with “Harvester” units, mutate your eggs into new types of minions, build your army, and spit globs of Neurotoxin at the enemy horde while the battle rages on. Build your army out of 18 different minions, from electricity-shooting shell-covered beasts, to flying bat-like bomb-carriers, each with their own strengths and weaknesses. Unlock new creatures and abilities as you play through dozens of levels, including bonus “challenge levels” which put a twist on the normal gameplay. For a tough battle, replay levels on hard mode, or try the “New Game Plus” mode added in a free update.
Swarm Queen is inspired by insects, and classic sci-fi aliens like Xenomorphs, Zerg, and the “Bugs” from Starship Troopers. It’s like a war between ant colonies.. but in space! Swarm Queen contains a “100% scientifically accurate” depiction of Jupiter’s moon Europa, including all of the alien life. No, it’s not covered in ice. NASA is lying to you. So, I discovered the free version of this game on Armor Games/Kongregate, but Adobe Flash is garbage and I wanted a better experience, and I wanted to support the indie developer, so I bought the game here and am beating it again! Very fun, a little crude and simplistic, but it has complexity and challenging difficulty in its own way. Would definitely recommend! Swarm Queen’s gameplay is pretty straight-forward (though actually quite nuanced); you play, well… a swarm queen! And other swarm queens typically don’t take kindly to you – so you try to murder each other for survival and space. Spawn harvesters, develop eggs, hatch creatures, spew acid, even grow more organs, and take down your enemies… before they can take down you. Each level has its gimmick, and it may take a few tries to figure out how to get through it….. and then you can try it on hard mode.

Wow surprised how good and well thought out this game is. The levels and units are nice looking and servicable. Dialog and level introductions are funny without being grating. And there are a few key mechanics that really make this one of the better “tug of war” style games: The primary active Neurotoxin (a targettable bomb) can’t be used within a certain distance of the other queen. This means you can stave off attackers and prevent getting overrun spawn killed. Nuke is a 1 time use that clears the screen basically, but has a couple neat strategies, like saving some nectar (money), letting the enemy build up, nuking them and then quickly building a recovery force There are 21 levels, plus some challenge levels (with cool or silly mutations/modifications) and best of all a Skirmish mode, where you can set the terrain and time of day, have all units unlocked, and just go to town. I wish Skirmish mode was available from the beginning (you have to beat the game to get it). The campaign didn’t feel as “puzzly” as some similar games, in that different strategies work instead of just what the devs intended you to beat the level with.
