About The Game
Welcome friends to The Battle of Polytopia, a unique turn-based strategy game involving strange lands and charismatic tribes, clever technologies, captivating magic where the ultimate goal is to rule the world. Obvs! Scene: Enter the Square, the bizarre home planet of the Polytopians, a flat square-shaped landmass drifting in the space of an alternate dimension to ours. A relatively simple and curious folk that has a penchant for fighting, the Polytopians are 15 individual tribes spread out across the Square, each with their own characteristics, motivations, strengths and weaknesses. As a player, you will take on the role of the ruler of one of these tribes as you attempt to build your civilization in competition with the other tribes.
Will you choose to be the leader of the Xin-Xi, reserved yet adventurous traditionalists that are wary of change or outsiders? Perhaps the Hoodrick, who love archery, nature, mushrooms, and famed for their baked goods! Or maybe the Bardur, where the local tavern is their favorite place and Ullefurgh their drink choice, a delightful concoction of pine needles, hot water and rabbit fat. Deeeelicious!! But beware of the Vengir, purple rhino-pig riding warriors who, in between bouts of pillaging, like to sharpen their swords and vacation at the misty Kithkga Boneyards. You really don’t want to get on their bad side! My takeaway: I didn’t even know it was a phone game until my partner and I stumbled across it on Steam and they remembered playing it a while back. We gave it a go and I was super surprised! It’s very polished with a cute childlike style and easy gameplay to pick up on unlike many other city building strategy games. You choose your classes and play to create a better bustling city or conquer everyone around you. The games last anywhere between twenty minutes and several hours depending on the map style and skill level of who you’re up against. The different maps provide enough challenge to learn and understand all the game mechanics and overall is a great time!
The strategy elements are pretty simplified for this title which makes it easy to learn, evaluate, and plan ahead after seeing what strategy your opponent may be using. Give it a go! I’ve seen a lot of people complaining over phone games coming to Steam for PC Players and although the trend is annoying when it’s done right it’s very enjoyable! I personally don’t and never have played very many phone games so having this game up provided an experience for both me and my partner with a game I wouldn’t have otherwise played. Only real downside is the lack of explanation involving the skill trees and maps, lack of Steam cards, and lack of achievements. What a wonderful game. You don’t have to know much, you don’t have to think much and you don’t have to keep track of too many things. In my opinion it’s perfect for some fairly short, casual rounds and especially with friends it’s loads of fun, though the AI enemies are pretty good too.
