About The Game
Having completed your degree in mortuary sciences, you have taken on an apprenticeship at River Fields Mortuary. A story that unfolds through multiple playthroughs. I won’t say how you come to be stuck in it, but that becomes the situation early on. The gameplay loop establishes itself as follows: Grab a body. Pull it down the hallway into the main room. Work on it… do all that nasty stuff we all know morticians do to, in the end, make a corpse presentable. Working” here sounds procedural, sounds simple. But it ain’t. Because as you go about doing your job (and you must do your job, using certain tools in certain ways at certain times), stuff happens. The stuff that happens will, without a doubt, make you uneasy, and, combined with the already disturbing nature that comes with manipulating a corpse, you will feel something. That’s what this game does. It locks you into a procedural cycle, forcing you to participate in it, and then it pokes you and prods you, laughs at you, beckons you.

After playing my first shift as the Mortuary Assistant, all I can say is WOW!! I have never been so scared playing a game. The movement in game was for the most part smooth. No major bugs, No game breaking glitches. A few moments where the game seemed to “hitch” or drop frames but it was extremely minimal and never hindered your performance in game. Accessing in game inventory is quite simple and after your first few embalming’s, you start to get the rhythm of what to do and where items are located. You play as a mortician that is tasked with taking care of the deceased, all while being haunted by various demons during your night shifts. After multiple shifts, the task involved in taking care of the deceased become very repetitive, but the various outcomes and choices you can make along the way help push past this feeling. There is a slight learning curve when it comes to progression and other minor aspects of the game, but it is worth the exploration to learn.
