The Afflicted Monster endgame suffers from objective flaws that any game designer should have identified and eradicated months and months ago, with each patch simply band-aiding the problems. There are now 300 levels of Afflicted Investigation rank, and the player receives a massive penalty to progress for hunting 20 or more levels below their rank. Because a player can never play above their own rank, that means the moment that you and your friends de-sync, you will not be meeting up again until you hit the max rank.
Combat feels awesome, especially when fighting regular monsters. Hits have good weight, each weapon has many options and it’s a ton of fun to land some counterattack, or a big move and have the monster stumble and fall to your mighty blow. Or maybe you tapped it with your hand and it collapsed, either way the gameplay is still as solid as ever in any Monster Hunter Title. The combat system is another thing that is good enough. It works, but it’s not great. It would be nice if I did a little more damage and regenerated mana a little faster. In most RPGs these issues can be resolved by allocating stat points and getting better gear, but in this game stat points are assigned automatically based on your class and it doesn’t take long before you sort of hit a wall where you stop finding better gear.
