The character automatically switches when you step across the line into the next segment.
This is important since each girl has a distinct fighting style; one likes a rifle, while the other prefers a sword. The controls are really simplified for both because you only have the attack, dash and a couple of combinations for four special skills. While the first three skills are purely offensive, the last one adds some strategy by allowing you to switch segments. So, for example, if the stage is primarily designed for swordfighters but you prefer gunfighters, you can simply switch. However, this turns out entirely meaningless because the gameplay centers around spamming basic and special strikes regardless of the character. Skills must first be unlocked by accumulating experience points. You can only level up four times because there are only four skills. This may not appear to be much, but there is a catch. When you take damage, you lose experience points. In practice, this means that you lose skills as quickly as you get them.

Stages are fast and hectic. If you know what you’re doing, you might finish off every enemy in less than a minute. They come in several varieties, but the gameplay is so fast that you don’t have time to look at them. Their appearance is irrelevant because the only thing you need to focus on are their attacks. These are colored red and can strike in a variety of patterns. Some drop explosives in a circle, others fire multiple rounds around the area, and some me even drop fields in which you lose all your powers.
