Welcome to the Upturned Inn! Ride the elevator up through many unique floors and meet its monstrous inhabitants. You just want to get to your room. But a great storm is lighting up on the horizon, and it wants you. Over 10 unique monsters, big and small, each with their own personalities. You won’t always be attacked outright; each enemy approaches you with its own mysterious intentions and strategies. The gameplay is based around funny and chaotic throwing physics, which is (uncommonly) spiced up with some short puzzles. The horror aspect of this game is the absolute chaos. One minute you’ll be having fun smashing every piece of furniture in the room to bits, and the next you’ll be chased by a horrifying horde of enemies, frantically picking up and throwing any item in sight to stop them. Somehow a simultaneously wacky and terrifying game, succeeding at both being an amazing horror game, and quite the comedic experience. Not many games can make me laugh out loud, and then within seconds make me jump and shout from being startled. I’m not usually into horror games, Explore bizarre places such as a glass pane factory, an aquarium, an abandoned shopping mall, and a wild west town.
The ending left me hoping for sequel. It is definitely worth playing. The characters were quirky and unique with enjoyable dialogue that had me chuckling during my play through, with a few irrepressible facepalm moments. Each level had the same theme of finding a key for a locked room to get the item inside in order to advance. To my relief, every couple of levels introduced a new hazard without becoming overly difficult, but, kept the game play from feeling monotonous. The interactivity of some of the enemies was really a nice feature, (without to much of a spoiler) targeting the last contact made to the water, tossing objects into them as a distraction, and converting one of them into a tool. Almost every object having physics gave me quite a few clenched toe moments while being pursued, only to realize the exit was blocked by furniture that was knocked around, forcing me to remain in a confined space while being assaulted from almost every side. Will be checking for other title from this dev. You get to chuck furniture at birds. Game’s atmosphere leads to a funny yet tension filled game that doesn’t have many dips in enjoyment.

Meet Ik, the founder of the Upturned Inn, and together unravel a cosmic horror as it comes to pass. Nothing is what it seems, and every soul is in danger. Your dialogue with Ik may mean the difference between life and death. Rides the line of frustration versus fun well Level Design has a great variety for game length, good collectables to allow for completionists to really enjoy. Controls are exactly what they need to be for a physics based horror comedy. Something really enjoyable in this game in just chucking things about. Off beat humor that got good chuckles out of me without distracting too much from everything else. Interesting lore developed that I would love to see more of. A full original soundtrack composed by none other than the man himself – The Upturned is a case where the sum of the game is greater then all of its parts. Sure, you can point to the smart implementation of the physics based controls, on top of the level variety and say that it’s worth the price of admission. The smart sound design for a comedic game with horror elements is well done, and the visuals while overall took dark for my liking, push the game into an uneasy atmosphere yet still allowing you to laugh at any point. But none of these specific elements makes the game stand out in any specific way.
