It’s been two years since Atcchan, our protagonist, left his hometown; a small, sleepy village with a tiny population. Now he is finally able to return – but only for three days. How will his old friends react to him, and will their relationships be able to stand the test of time? For a person who’s always been afraid of change, this is a worrying prospect for our hero… but it’s something he will have to overcome if he can ever hope to right his past wrongs. And a failure to do so can result in some rather unpleasant outcomes… Our protagonist is an introverted young boy called as “Attchan” by all his friends, who returns to the village that he grew up for a 3 day vacation. It’s been 2 years since Attchan moved away to live in the city, leaving his childhood friends and all the familiar geography of his own history behind. Going back to the stage of his past, he coincides with the stage of many his friends’ present.
Throughout his choices – and the order of actions he’d chose to take – Attchan will be able to either amend for past mistakes and make shining new memories, or make new mistakes that could bear dire consequences. Will he be able to find friendly faces shyly smiling despite the time in between, or all that he’d ever find would be the futility of nostalgia? Fair warning: aside its cutesy, anime art style and the weeaboo humor that dominates some interactions, The Way We All Go bears a dark undertone with some really disturbing endings and occasional graphic narrative with gore material. It is most certainly NOT kid friendly. All characters – some more than others – bear insecurities, overcompensations, traumas, personality defects. Some of these come with brutal conclusions, underlining the cause-consequence relationship and the impact of our own disabilities on other people. Immersion is done right here. I personally found the protagonist not much sympathetic though.
The Way We All Go Free Steam Pre-Installed:
Attchan is a seemingly gentle, shy and over-critical young boy when it comes to his own insecurities but essentially he really is a coward and hideously self-centered if you are to take a close reading to the text. He is overly passive, and sometimes you wonder “how the heck that ended up happening???”. It’s as if the boy has no free will at all! Aside the crybaby protagonist, I especially liked Amu as a character with her marvelous inner strength, and about Noelle… well, any comment about that would come as heavy spoilers. I won’t do that kind of evil deed on you. You spend your time back visiting two girls each with very different personalities. One is your typical loud & fun loving girl (Amu) and the other is the shy & reserved type (Noelle). There are a decent amount of choices to be made. Start to finish clocked in at 61 minutes for me, I could see it being around 90 minutes or so if you’re a slower reader.
