Rather than their traditional 8-bit look and sound, this one leaps forward, still maintaining the general feel but adding a lot more depth in terms of animation and especially through voiced attacks and music. Booting it up and immediately being greeted with electric guitar and a three minute opening song, only to find moments later that all of the music holds that same standard, was a welcome surprise that I haven’t seen in even most modern style games. The gameplay systems are simple, so far it feels like the normal enemies are more of a time waste than a challenge since you start with full resources each battle, but even the boss fights felt good and required some strategy to stay standing. I’m also looking forward to playing with the customizable Traits and Abilities, which allow you really shift how each character is used. The game throws you right into the story and makes it very clear exactly what you should expect. It immediately embraces the zaniness of the setting, with your first mission being to save Romeo from a man-eating plant. It frequently breaks the fourth wall. It subverts expectations. Most importantly, it is genuinely, laugh out loud funny at times.

A fun jaunt. A lot of good customization in your party and cast but not as expansive as you might want to really explore them. Hard mode is a good reason to really dig in without being overbaring like insane modes of the past games have been. Graphics are a treat. The Graphics for the main game are basic but it’s fitting for the Genre. Also they have dropped the random battles with on screen monsters to avoid if you want to not fight (And you still have the option to start a battle through the main menu). The fighting system is identical to CSC too which I’ve enjoyed but I can understand those who may not like it. The Animation for the transformations are incredible…except I’m always stuck watching them every single time which can get very tedious. Fun game, worth the price if you enjoy the genre imo. As a JRPG lover I chose challenging difficulty and stuck with it (although u can change on the fly if you choose). it is definitely my preferred difficulty as I have lost a few battles, but playing more strategic ends up in a win. Humor is hit and miss, but enjoyed some of the jokes. Decent story line but very linear, so if that is not your preferred rpg style, this may not be for you.
