Detective Ito`s partner is missing, but what starts as a straightforward case soon spirals into a twisted nightmare that causes Ito to confront her past and question her own sanity. Tokyo Dark places the narrative in your hands. Your decisions and actions change Detective Ito’s state of mind, opening doors to different possibilities as you attempt to find your partner and understand the dark and horrifying world around you. The S.P.I.N (Sanity, Professionalism, Investigation, Neurosis) system keeps track of every decision you make, changing how other characters react and the actions available to you. A deliciously dark delve into the world beneath Tokyo, that will leave you questioning each and every decision. A branching narrative that delivers 11 exciting endings. A NewGame+ mode that positions you at the fork of each of Tokyo Dark’s 11 endings. Beautifully animated sequences produced by Graphinica – a world class anime studio.
Tokyo Dark is a real mixed bag. The game suffers from sparse jumpscares for the fist half of the game, being an extremely short experience of around four hours and having a clearly strained budget with a few rare bugs still existing. Animations are often reused and some are lacking soundeffects. One particular object has no audio queue and is always shown from a specific angle to make it appear scary when you first see it. However as you show this object to other characters it may unintentionally startle you as it suddenly appears without warning the same way as when you first saw it. This could easily have been avoided by drawing a new, less creepy, image of the object or adding an audio queue to let the player know what their character is about to present.
Tokyo Dark Pre-Installed:
It’s painfully easy to keep your sanity in good enough condition and you’ll be maxing the Investigation Progress without even trying. Professionalism is more of a choice than something you attempt to max and for the life of me I can’t seem to find what having low Neuroces really does other than make sanity, an easily managed stat, marginally harder to manage While they’re good, the tracks loop often and it becomes apparent that a lot of the ambient noise you think is being controlled to fit the games’ atmosphere is just a part of the soundtrack. So if a track starts calmly and progessively gets more tense it can quickly break your immersion when you realzie the track has looped back to its calmer start but the situation has only escalated The exploration, discovery and puzzle solving found in Point and Click Adventures married with narrative depth and intrigue of visual novels. Original soundtrack by Reign of Fury front man Matt `Bison` Steed. Localization by Japanese novelist Ureshino Kimi.
