You move through mind-bending environments, wrapped in striking visuals, and interact with pieces of the story. This 30-minute experience is inspired by the love of sci-fi and the resurgence of UFO/UAP in the modern psyche. It explores a moment of contact and the possible motives of Non-Human Intelligence. It beautifully merges elements of sci-fi with a deep exploration of human consciousness, creating a mesmerizing trip that will make you want to experience mushrooms. If you’re looking for a game that challenges the mind and leaves you with a sense of wonder, Unveiling is an absolute must-play.
A very short game, but brilliant on many levels. Elements of the psychedelic breakthrough experience in here, too, which was fascinating. The game starts off relatively slow, letting you walk around to get a feel of the controls while admiring the world around you, before introducing you to the tension and dread of walking through the dank and dark alien-infested underground, and then on to the adrenaline pumping gunfights. As someone who gets motion sickness from certain games and with the effects magnified by VR, I really appreciated the teleport movement and snap turning options. It was because of this that I never once experienced any sort of “VR sickness” while playing this game. The level design perfectly takes advantage of all the visual fidelity the game can offer, everything is alive and reactive to touch, creatures crawl beneath your feet and the walls breath and try to bite you, and it is all so real you simply cannot feel not immersed.
Unveiling Direct Play:
The gameplay is enjoyable enough but doesn’t take long to become a repetitive task, though checking off the list of sea-dwellers in the encyclopedia is satisfying. Each creature has one or more aberrational variants – a manifestation of the eldritch forces that loom over the world – and further variety is added through the different biomes, requirements for catching specific fish, and how well you are able to maintain your sanity in the wake of witnessing otherworldly abominations. Depictions of strange fish reveal the unspeakable terrors from the deep: voids where eyes should be, blistered and bubbling scales, and grotesque many-mouthed beasts. On a technical level the game performs wonderfully. It’s evident that the resources required aren’t anything remarkable but it’s still nice to see such a smooth experience.
