A spooky adventure where Vasilisa’s journey and service to Baba Yaga consist of a series of mini-games with a variety of gameplay mechanics. You will go on a journey with Vasilisa to the land of the dead to obtain the power of fire, which only Baba Yaga can give. Vasilisa already has a magical helper — a doll given by her mother. But this is not enough to deal with the evil stepmother. It is necessary to pass the tests of the mistress of the forbidden forest and prove to her that Vasilisa is worthy to receive the power not only from her mother, but the mother of all mothers — Baba Yaga. The narrator reads the tale in a South Russian dialect. The story is told in the same manner as in Russian villages.The soundtrack is an original piece based on folk songs from the central and southern parts of Russia. The built-in encyclopaedia of folk tale characters, demonic creatures, household items, customs and rituals was compiled with the help of a consulting folklorist. Stylistically Vasilisa and Baba Yaga is absolutely gorgeous, the visuals and the music fit in very well, the characters and the environments are a breath of fresh air. Russian voice acting uses a peculiar “olden” dialect and is impeccable and fun to listen to. A rare game where you won’t want to skip voice lines because they’re that damn good.
Vasilisa and Baba Yaga Pre-Installed:
The story is based on Slavic folklore and more specifically on a particular Russian tale, but character archetypes will be familiar even to those who don’t know anything about Russian folklore. The story is simple, it’s a folk tale after all, but remarkable atmosphere and odd characters keep you engaged. Gameplay is where the game may be lacking a bit. Mini-games are not particularly engaging and some mechanics feel a bit unwieldy. Combat is quite awkward. Be prepared to dash a lot but don’t get frustrated too much – you will get to feel all-powerful and vent all your frustrations in the end of the game.
