Xargon Remake Ep.3 is a run and gun 2d action platformer where the player advances through a game map by completing levels. Each level has its unique nonlinear layout, where the player must explore and find door keys and artifacts for progression, as well as new enemies, item pickups and different power-ups. This is a remake of the classic 1993 DOS video game Xargon, developed by Epic Megagames, under the supervision of Allen Pilgrim. The original game has three episodes, this version is a remake of the third episode. The graphics in each level layout, from the original game, have been replaced with new assets and textures. All enemies’ sprites from the original game are enhanced and upscaled, as well as new enemies and bosses are introduced. New captivating music tracks are introduced for some stages in the game.
It still has special move inputs, which can be intimidating to new players, but there aren’t anything particularly harsh and the games inbuilt features for learning said inputs and their use cases is extremely well done. The game has what I would consider the gold standard for fighting game tutorials, so as opposed to me rattling on further, just know that this game will hold your hand until you’re ready to win your first match still somehow on the fence. Guilty Gear Strive is a fun, accessible fighting game with free form mechanics that make the game complex and intuitive yet simple to learn delightful open-world RPG that offers a unique twist on the monster-collecting genre. It’s a charming and nostalgic title that blends a unique visual style, engaging combat, and a musical twist.
Xargon Remake Ep.3 Pre-Installed:
I feel it’s relatively generic dark fantasy fare and mostly forgettable. There are a few really nice, haunting tracks, but the combat music is generally forgettable and I muted the music entirely after about 10 hours in to enjoy the ambient sound, which is quite excellent. There is still RNG involved here, but it feels restrained to acceptable levels now, and playing around the token system makes turn-based combat feel far more strategic than ever before. This is one of the best turn-based JRPG-style combat systems I’ve ever played, and although longer runs are still far too reliant on combat and become a bit repetitive as a result, the overall changes made here are miles ahead of the first game.
