This is an erotic simulation game with elements of humor. The protagonist, Kouta Morimura, is tasked with managing an old-fashioned massage parlor and must earn enough money within a set deadline to complete a promotion task for the underworld. At the same time, he must also find time to maintain complex emotional relationships with several women. How the story ends depends entirely on the player’s management skills and romantic prowess! Players need to simulate managing a traditional Thai massage parlor, earning enough money to achieve promotions. In your spare time, you can also establish emotional relationships with customers in the shop and go on dates with them. Besides acquiring customers, another significant challenge in management is training employees! As you progress (or rather, fail before moving to try again), you’ll level up and gain access to new spells, starting minions, and points for an expansive passive tree. This leads back into the roguelike mechanic, as you fight your way through Irea’s “shattered memories” looking for answers.
While I could proceed only so far in the demo, I found a build focusing on my slash attacks to be my preference, increasing my attack speed, inflicting bleed, and working my way toward the node that gives you a second dodge. I would target archers or casters to resurrect for their heavy damage. This is accomplished by having the story mostly told through small scenes where dialogue is replaced by small pictures representing what characters would have said. This added to the overall charm and didn’t hinder my experience in any way. Still, some moments cause confusion, especially when this green giant bacteria made this old woman float then transform into a spider monster. What I can gather is that this is a virus that is turning people into monsters and the daughter is trapped trying to run for her life. However, the story never gets much deeper than that.

These essential tools are all you get to navigate the levels, and honestly, this is all you really need. The enemies weren’t as much of an issue, but the stage itself was. The collision and hitboxes are all over the place where I’d seemingly bang Wicce’s head on invisible objects that make her stand still or cut a jump short. It’s really irritating at times as you need to have more precision for jumps than you would think. The complexity and writing of Hood Story cannot be compared to the RGG Studio productions . The motivations and entanglements are all kept a bit simpler . Admittedly, one person can hardly handle a (really) good script alone, unless they already had literary ambitions. I think that with limited resources, Kenzo has actually put together a nice little story in which not all of the characters stick in your head, but where the general vibe comes across.
