About The Game
ELEX is a handcrafted action role-playing experience from the award-winning creators of the Gothic series, set in a brand new post-apocalyptic Science Fantasy universe that puts players into a huge seamless game world full of original characters, mutated creatures, deep moral choices and powerful action. In ELEX, you join the war over a powerful resource that gives people great magic-like powers, but turns them into indifferent cold creatures. You decide if emotions and humaneness or cold synthetic logic will rule the world of Magalan. I don’t know how to start this jumping into this game and reading what I am about to go into. Note to everyone who’s reading I am new to Piranha Bytes Games. I didn’t play the gothic series nor the titan quest series. So apparently this falls into the category of being a EU-RPG which has some amount of difficulty getting into the game, like you need to avoid most of your fights during the early game which prompts you to plan your early game fight, so yeah sure it’s not one of those “Hey I saw that enemy so I must take it down” dilemma.
So for people who’re just jumping in don’t play on a harder difficulty like me, unless you want a challenge, though the normal difficulty offers it’s fair share of difficulty , mobs in the early game will probably 3 shot you. In higher difficulties please for the love of god don’t let the mobs backstab you or you die immediately. The questing system feels like pre-fallout 4 dialogue which I prefer than having 4 generic responses. There are many ways to finish a quest and it feels like you achieved something afterwards unlike “There’s another settlement that needs your help” and random radiant quests in Bethesda’s Games. In the mid game everything gets easier by a bit, you should still be careful as any wrong move can still get ya killed but atleast it becomes bearable. Combat is simple , going early game shield can be great and you can just turtle the early game using ranged weapons. I don’t wanna make this review any longer. I am so far still in Chapter 2 after 28 Hrs of gameplay as of writing this review still discovering areas and a lot of npcs that give out quests. Also a tip for people, just join a faction early. It doesn’t really lock you out of other factions, only the ranking up quests ones for specifc factions so you don’t miss alot.
So I would strongly recommend this game, BUT there are a couple of things that you need to be aware of as it’s not going to suit everyone! 1. This game IS HARD it’s not meant to be easy, things will kill you at lvl 1 even in the newbie starter area. 2. This games strength is highly in it’s Story & Exploration, it’s combat is not a strong point and is very clunky even with overhaul mods. But if you like Story & Exploration it’s not a deal breaker. 3. I strongly suggest if you want to get the best out of this game not to fast travel everywhere as you’ll miss a ton of stuff. I personally had a self imposed rule of only fast travel from town to town. This game is awesome. I would describe it as the missing link between Elder Scrolls and Fall Out. Has Magic, Bronze age weaponry, and Futuristic guns and weapons. Kind of difficult getting started because the game doesn’t scale with you. Was originally planning on playing through all the different classes but 150hr’s game time into it and still haven’t completed my first play through. I’m not a completionist and I have a lot of games left in the library to get to but this does have replay. I might come back to it again in the future.
