The best thing about this game is that it knows what it is, and doesn’t try to be anything else. BAJA EoC is strictly a game about dirty offroad racing, be it via traditional circuit racing, hillclimb events that push your vehicle to its limits, or miles-long endurance races across impressively vast stretches of desert. The cars feel pretty good to control; they’re a little lighter than you might expect, but they still hit a nice sweet spot between arcade-y and realistic. It’s arcade-y enough to be quick and responsive, but realistic enough to the point where it matters how you drive…hard landings and reckless collisions will damage various parts of your car, and driving a bad line through a corner might cost you a few seconds as you lose speed. Overall, it’s really fun to learn how to use a track’s natural banking to your advantage, riding through turns and jumps with grace like a desert-themed roller coaster. There’s certainly no shortage of content either; the game features multiple kinds of races, several different classes ranging from buggies to dune racers to trophy trucks, and tons of tracks in multiple enviornments. There’s even a free drive mode if you feel like firing up your offroad behemoth and tearing across the wilderness with complete freedom.
