About The Game
Call of Juarez: The Cartel , is the latest in the wild west series, that separates itself from Red Dead Redemption by moving the action to modern day Los Angeles, with the Feds fighting Mexican drug cartels. A first person shooter with a 15 story solo player campaign, plus online mutiplayer, Call of Juarez: The Cartel promises a bloody stortline that sees you playing three characters, an LAPD detective alongside a DEA and an FBI agent chasing the drug cartels. Each character has their own ‘secret agenda’, and there is plenty of inter-departmental rivalry to ensure that things won’t go smoothly. A bomb exploded in the premises of the DEA (Drug Enforcement Administration) and following a careful investigation and collection of clues, everything shows that the attack was carried out by the drug cartels that operate from Mexico.
Annoyed, the American government decided to react by creating a special team to penetrate these cartels and destroy them. This mission was given to agents Eddie Guerra of the DEA and Kim Evans of the FBI and Ben MCCall, a police officer, who had been called by the only witness Jess Stone daughter of Patrick Stone, one of the police officers who was killed in an attack. Head of Mission Shane Dickson is responsible for leading operations. Call of Juarez: The Cartel is a bad change of pace for the franchise. Bringing history into modern times seems to have robbed it of its passion and charm, replacing it with silly characters and more swear words than an Al Pacino movie. It’s not the worst shooter, but it has all the issues of a budget title and few qualities worth recommending.
The map editor ships with the game at launch, opening up a potentially infinite amount of map variation for the future. The eight maps that ship with the game are, for the most part, asymmetrical, well designed and feel balanced. It feels great playing on non-mirrored maps for once. The campaign and story are above average for an RTS game. The story is supremely compelling with fantastically animated cutscenes (the best I’ve ever seen) and the campaign offers subtle, interesting variations on the skirmish gameplay through fifteen lengthy missions. It will likely take you a couple of days to complete the campaign and some of the later mission are quite challenging indeed.
